A special thanks for visiting my blog and for your interest in Haiti. There's something we're really excited about and we think you'll understand why when you look at this 3-minute video (which was done by John and is very unprofessional) of young Haitians in our neighborhood singing and dancing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2xHxPwH_Lc

We recently celebrated one and a half years since this group got started. They are thriving. And Director Alex Myril and Dance Teacher Christela Calixte are doing a fantastic job. Those who know the history know full well of our slow and rocky start.

In addition to discovering their talents in singing and dancing, these youth also use the participatory learning and leadership methods promoted by Beyond Borders' Circles of Change (www.circlesofchange.com) and Living Words programs. They are future leaders!

We have a rudimentary website that has history, reports and links to earlier videos at www.haitichildrenschoir.org

A very special thanks to Bob Hadley. Without him this wonderful initiative would not have happened. Also, the guidance of professional choral directors Kayla Werlin and Wayne Abercrombie has been invaluable. In fact, assuming Director Alex Myril is granted a visa, he will travel to Massachusetts end of September to be with Kayla and Wayne to expand his knowledge.

With gratitude and excitement,

john
